Frequently Asked Questions about Moving
What type of moving insurance is available?
There is “basic carrier liability-release value” insurance, which is the minimum mandated by federal law. This type of insurance is included in your base move price. However, the coverage amount is only 30 cents per pound per article.
However, for high value items you may want to consider extra insurance. You do not have to cover these items for their complete replacement cost because it is highly unlikely any item will be destroyed in a move. For example, if you are moving a $10,000 piano you may want to consider insuring it for $7,000.
How should I pack my belongings?
Packing correctly can be complicated. However, we will cover a few key packing recommendations. First, when packing fragile items, it is key to not only use bubble wrap, but to also include paper in the box for extra padding. Second, belongings should never be placed in garbage bags. All belongings should be packed in boxes, whether it be clothing, bedding or books. Finally, stack your dishes vertically with soft items, such as socks or blankets, between them. Vertical stacking is the safest way to ensure they do not break.
Should I tip the movers?
Tipping is not required, but it is highly recommended. For a small move we suggest $25 while for a large move we advise $50 or more.
